Aakela jewellery can last a lifetime with proper care under normal wearing conditions. It is recommended to prevent using any harsh chemicals, creams, gels or perfumes on your pieces to increase the lifespan of your pieces. Heavy wear and rough conditions can impact how the pieces look. We wish for you to enjoy your pieces for a long time and so here are some tips to care care of your pieces.

Sterling Silver

With our sterling silver pieces, the metal may darken or tarnish overtime but the best way to prevent tarnishing is to frequently wear the silver pieces. Due to the nature of natural materials, storing them under humidity and extreme temperatures can easily oxidise the silver which gives it a tarnished look. Tarnish on sterling silver is most easily removed when it first becomes visible. Make sure to polish your pieces regularly and store it in an airtight box to avoid exposure to the air.

When cleaning your pieces, gently wash them with a soft toothbrush and mild dish soap with warm water and make sure to dry it well before storing. Keep a close eye to when cleaning pieces with prong settings as they may loosen during the cleaning process. It is recommended to avoid wearing sterling silver jewellery in seawater, swimming pools, hot tubs, showers, etc. as chemicals and salt can be corrosive to metals.

Gold-Filled

Gold-filled jewellery is recommended to be cared for in the same manner as with sterling silver. To maintain the beauty of your gold-filled jewellery, use a little bit of warm water and a soft cloth to dry and shine after. Try to avoid any chemicals that are marketed for jewellery cleaning as they can be somewhat abrasive and can cause some damage or discolouration to your pieces.

With a higher gold content and improved methods of fabrication, gold-filled wears beautifully. It offers an economical alternative without jeopardising the quality. Gold-filled metal is created by bonding a substantial layer of gold to a base metal core which in turn increases its durability. This is what sets apart gold-filled from gold-plated jewellery.
